SEO pricing for a small or medium-sized business in Spain usually sits between €400 and €2,000 a month, depending on how competitive the sector is, the size of the website and the hours of work the service includes. A local business tends to fall between €400 and €700 a month; an online shop or a contested sector, between €1,200 and €2,000 a month. These are indicative market ranges, not official rates.
The figure alone tells you little. What makes a quote cheap or expensive is how much real work is behind it and whether that work addresses what is holding your site back. Below are the three pricing models, what each range usually includes and how to compare two proposals without being a specialist.
| Monthly retainer for an SME | €400 – 2,000/month |
|---|---|
| Fixed-price project | €800 – 3,000 |
| Consulting hour | €40 – 90/hour |
| First results | 3 – 6 months |
SEO rates: the three pricing models
Almost every SEO rate you receive will fit one of these three models. None is better by definition: it depends on whether you need continuous work or a specific intervention.
| Model | When it fits | Indicative range | Where the risk is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly retainer | You want sustained growth in search | €400 – 2,000/month | Paying every month without knowing what was done |
| Fixed-price project | New site, redesign, migration or initial clean-up | €800 – 3,000 | Nobody maintaining the work afterwards |
| Hourly | Specific questions, team training, a second opinion | €40 – 90/hour | Hours without a defined goal |
The retainer is the most common model because search work is never fully finished: competitors publish, Google changes and the site grows. A fixed-price project makes sense when the problem is well defined. And loose hours work well if you have someone in-house who executes and you only need judgement.
SEO cost by range and what it includes
Anyone searching for SEO prices wants to know what they get in return. This table sums up what usually sits behind each monthly range:
| Monthly range | Typical profile | What it usually includes |
|---|---|---|
| Under €200 | Automated services | Tool-generated reports and very few hours of a person's work |
| €400 – 700 | Freelancer or local business | Google Business Profile, optimisation of service pages, one or two pieces of content a month and a report |
| €700 – 1,200 | SME with a corporate site | Technical SEO, regular content, internal linking and keyword tracking |
| €1,200 – 2,000 | Online shop or competitive sector | All of the above plus categories and product pages, external links and more content volume |
| Over €2,000 | National or multilingual project | Strategy by market, a dedicated team and continuous production |

Between €200 and €400 there is room for very narrow services, for example maintaining only the Google Business Profile. They can be useful if you know exactly what you are buying.
What pushes SEO pricing up or down
- Competition and reach. A plumber in Terrassa does not cost the same as a Penedès wine shop selling across Spain.
- Starting point. A site with indexing errors, slow loading or poor structure needs more hours in the first months.
- Size. Fifty pages can be reviewed in an afternoon; five thousand product pages cannot.
- Content. Who writes it, how many pieces a month and whether they are needed in Catalan and Spanish.
- Links. Earning mentions on other sites is the line that varies most between quotes.
- Who applies the changes. Whether the provider edits the site directly or sends instructions to your developer.
The initial audit is sometimes included in the first month and sometimes billed separately: we cover its cost in SEO audit cost. And if you want figures for a specific market, the local case is in SEO agency in Barcelona: prices.
How to compare two SEO quotes
Two €600 proposals can be completely different services. Before looking at the total, ask for these six things in writing:
- Monthly hours and how they are split.
- Specific deliverables: how many pages optimised, how many pieces of content, which technical changes.
- What the report measures: clicks and enquiries from Google, not only rankings.
- Minimum term and exit conditions.
- Ownership of the copy, the logins and the Search Console account.
- What is left out: links, translations, development changes.
One clear warning sign: a guaranteed first position. Google's own documentation for people hiring an SEO says it plainly: no one can guarantee a number one ranking. For more on the criteria, see how to choose an SEO agency in Catalonia.
When cheap SEO turns out expensive
The problem with a very low rate is not the price, it is what does not get done. With one or two hours a month there is no time to analyse, write and review; what remains is an automated report. And there is a cost that never appears on the invoice: the months that go by without progress while competitors keep working. Remember that results take time; for realistic timelines, read how long SEO takes to work.
At the other extreme, paying more guarantees nothing if the work does not tackle what limits your site. That is why I always recommend starting with a diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions
How much does SEO cost per month for a small business?
It usually sits between €400 and €2,000 a month in Spain. A local business tends to be between €400 and €700; an online shop or a highly contested sector, between €1,200 and €2,000. These are indicative ranges.
Is it better to pay for SEO monthly or per project?
A retainer fits when you want continuous growth. A fixed-price project works better for a new site, a migration or a clean-up with a clear start and end.
Why do SEO quotes differ so much?
Because the hours change, as does who writes the content, whether external links are included and who applies the technical changes. Two identical prices can hide very different services.
Does SEO pricing include Google Ads?
No. Advertising on Google is paid separately: there is the ad spend and, if someone manages it, their fee. We explain the difference in SEO vs Google Ads.
Is a minimum contract term normal?
Some proposals ask for a minimum commitment because SEO needs months to pay off. That is not bad in itself, but the exit conditions must be in writing.
